Thank you, Mom, for keeping these safe. I wish I could ask you who a lot of these people are. Some of these are from well before I was born.
I hadn’t thought about my Bozo-the-Clown punching bag in years. Funny, the things that brings to mind. I have the bell-ringing turtle from my first birthday. It’s something I’ll treasure forever.
I must have liked brown and white striped shirts, eh? I had at least a few of them. I’ve always liked horizontally striped shirts in principle, though I can never find ones I like anymore. Back in the 80s I had a few custom made for me, do you remember those from that shirt shop? French cuffs. I don’t even own cufflinks anymore, though I’d like to. I think they all had white collars, because that was a thing. I liked that thing. I wish they’d bring that thing back.
Pop giving me my first haircut. Those photos are priceless to me. Thank you, Mom. Thank you.
Aunt Mary is excited to get copies of the shots from her wedding. And the one of her in the orange dress. She says that was her favorite.
Jennifer wrinkled her nose and told me I could just keep that Jr. High picture of her when she had feathered Farrah Fawcett hair. It made me smile.
My dear friend Elizabeth, who was with me as I opened Mom’s boxes, inspired these little vignettes, and I can’t express deeply enough my gratitude to her for everything along this journey. My intention, I think, is to collect them, fill them out with my memories, and post them in one place, probably here.
To repeat the disclaimer, this is a project about re-discovery. It’s about remembering who I am, what I’m about, what I love and what I do not. Fair warning, this project will be posted here rather than at my SFW site because there will be nudity from time to time. Some of it will be of me, some not, some artistic and pretty to look at, some just raw.
I don’t intend to think of something every day and then shoot it, though I may do that sometimes, too. But sometimes I will just shoot, and then find something about myself in the frames and post about that thing, whatever it is.
