Frustration at every turn.
So I have a well here. And in the pump house there is a light bulb meant to provide enough heat to keep the pipes from freezing out there. I check that bulb before going to bed any night it’s supposed to drop below about 5 degrees C (0 degrees is the freezing point of water, in case you don’t know). And I did that the night before last, as usual, and the bulb was fine. It was supposed to hit about -8, so I wanted to make absolutely sure. Overnight, it blew out.
I got up about 4:30 yesterday morning to pee, and as soon as I flushed the toilet, muttered every single swear word I know. The pipes had frozen. I grabbed the biggest wattage bulb I could find and replaced it, hoping that between that and the daytime temperature squeaking above freezing later, it would thaw the pipes before the sun went down.
It’s supposed to be substantially warmer today, so here’s hoping I can shower before the end of the day.
