If you’ve listened to my interview with Leela, you may recall that one of my favorite parts of my job is when someone comes to me for pictures very shy, very hesitant, very unsure of themself, then over the course of the shoot becomes emboldened, relaxed, and nonchalantly comfortable in their own (naked) skin. I’ve lost track of how many times that’s happened over the course of one shoot, but I’ll never forget the most dramatic, and perhaps the fastest, time it’s happened.
When Mason and I scheduled our shoot, there were some of the usual caveats about body image stuff, and Mason impressed me as being one of the aforementioned folks who was going to need a bit of time to get comfortable. I was a little worried about it this time, being so pressed to squeeze everyone in with very short amounts of time with each person, and having a week that simply refused to go according to plan.
That’s how long it took, looking at the time stamps on the photos, for Mason to go from uncertain to unbridled. The transformation was a phenomenon of beauty to behold. And of all the times I’ve witnessed this complete shift in a client’s demeanor, Mason’s was not only the fastest and the most dramatic, but without question the most courageous.
I was moved right down to my non-existent soul.
Thank you, Mason, for giving me the honor of this shoot. You inspire me.
