Undressing

#365SelfDiscovery

I’ve seen a few military dress uniforms in my day. Way back in the beforetimes, back in years I don’t often care to remember, I spent some time in the U.S. Army. Having been stationed at Fort Bragg for awhile, I got to see a lot of dress uniforms from around the word. I don’t talk much about those days, for reasons I don’t care to discuss. But one thing I always wondered was, “What the holy fuck was the person who designed these Class A uniforms thinking?” The green dress uniform that you see most often on soldiers was an eyesore. There are a lot of nice looking dress uniforms out there, but ours was hands down the ugliest of them all. I hear they’ve updated it since then. I hear they managed to make it worse. I’m skeptical.

Now, there was a dress blue uniform, and it was pretty sharp. It’s the uniform you’ll see on the Old Guard if you go to someplace like Arlington National Cemetery. But we almost never wore that one. I might have worn mine twice. Hell, most of the lowest enlisted ranks didn’t even own one. (You had to buy it yourself, and it was really expensive.)

I guess the jump boots and beret I eventually wore with it helped the Class A, but still.

You know who has a nice looking dress uniform? The Navy. Dress whites are sharp. British Beefeaters, the Yeoman Warders you see at the Tower of London? They’ve got pretty spiffy duds, but I wouldn’t want to wear them around all day.

But to my mind, of all the domestic and foreign military dress uniforms I’ve ever seen, there is nothing that compares to the dress blues of the United States Marine Corps. And Shay wears them well, don’t you think? Damn. Just….damn.

To repeat the disclaimer, this is a project about re-discovery. It’s about remembering who I am, what I’m about, what I love and what I do not. Fair warning, this project will be posted here rather than at my SFW site because there will be nudity from time to time. Some of it will be of me, some not, some artistic and pretty to look at, some just raw.

I don’t intend to think of something every day and then shoot it, though I may do that sometimes, too. But sometimes I will just shoot, and then find something about myself in the frames and post about that thing, whatever it is.

All my #365SelfDiscovery posts will be filed here.
