Expense Account

I need one.

I thought about naming this post, “Hey Louis, I have an idea…

I love having fun on a shoot. Some shoots are a real blast, and we spend the entire time laughing and goofing off and carrying on while we’re getting great shots. Next up, I think I need a “bride” and her “bridal party” for a bachelorette party pillow fight. (You realize that all us guys know that’s what really goes on at those things, right? Because of course it does.) But sometimes, not even due to any particular bit of extreme recklessness or carelessness or negligence on anyone’s part, shit just gets broken.

I’ve had a pair of models get a little friskier with each other than intended, and a flailing foot took out a lightstand and busted a Pocket Wizard. Well, two lightstands and two Pocket Wizards, to be precise. I’ve been caught out in the middle of a field in a surprise downpour, taking out both my camera body and my birding lens. I’m told a pregnancy once resulted from one of my shoots. Sometimes shit just happens, and you have to roll with the punches. Last night (early this morning, I guess), it was my headboard. Nice start to Friday the 13th.

But cameras and lenses and pocket wizards and headboards and uteri that get messed up cost money to repair. I’ve been doing a lot of trade shoots lately, and that’s fun and awesome, and I hope I always do. But I could really use your help spreading the word about me and my work, so I can start getting more paid work. I have to be able to pay for damaged cameras and lenses and pocket wizards and headboards.

Not the uterus thing, though. Not my circus, not my elephants. I’m just the photographer.

To repeat the disclaimer, this is a project about re-discovery. It’s about remembering who I am, what I’m about, what I love and what I do not. Fair warning, this project will be posted here rather than at my SFW site because there will be nudity from time to time. Some of it will be of me, some not, some artistic and pretty to look at, some just raw.

I don’t intend to think of something every day and then shoot it, though I may do that sometimes, too. But sometimes I will just shoot, and then find something about myself in the frames and post about that thing, whatever it is.

All my #365SelfDiscovery posts will be filed here.
