We met a few years ago, when I first glimpsed her in the banding net fields and got a beautiful shot that I love very much. I see her at least a few times each year when I go to Kiptopeke for fall migration, and I always look forward to seeing her again.
I think what excites me about seeing her is her uniqueness, her individuality. She’s not “a deer”, she’s “that particular deer”. I saw her with other deer that first time, but only that once. Usually, she’s all alone. I approached her as gently as I knew how this year, and she let me get pretty close before she got spooked and bolted.
