When Frances approached me about a boudoir shoot, I asked her to bring a book for The Book Club. When she asked what kind of book to bring, I explained the concept and showed her the project so far. As always, I explained that it doesn’t matter to me what book she brought, but the book should be one that meant something to her, something important or loved in her life.
Frances brought a copy of The Secret Garden, a copy she’s owned since she was nine years old. I’d say that qualifies.
The book jacket is old and torn and faded badly, and it took quite a bit of massaging to get the cover to be legible for this piece. But given the book’s history and its age and its cherished place in her life, I’d say the effort was worth it.
