Sometimes I need a place to think, a place to clear my head of all the noise of life. And going off into some natural place to go birding often gives me the chance to do that. When I lived down on the southern end of Wilmington proper, I used to go to Greenfield Lake or Fort Fisher, but now that I’m up on the north end of Hampstead, it’s usually either the beach on Topsail Island or the forest in Holly Shelter.
Yesterday was such a day, so I headed over to Holly Shelter. The wind picked up shortly after I got there, and with the temperature down, I think the birds mostly just decided to hunker down. I didn’t shoot any birds, but for lack of anything better to shoot whilst I contemplated the universe, I took a few frames of this mess of signposts.
I’m sure there’s a metaphor there somewhere, but I haven’t bothered to tease it out. Instead, I’ll just share this shot from a lovely day in the forest.
