On Fat Tuesday I spent part of the evening watching the festivities on Royal St. from the highest balcony in the French Quarter. There was a historic party going on inside the apartment, in that the tenants there are being forced out for multi-year renovations to the building. They’d been hosting an annual party there for something like 30 years, and won’t be able to afford the skyrocketed rent after the building’s done. It’s the end of an era for a large number of friends of the tenants, many of whom shared years worth of memories of those parties.
In the spirit of “This is the last chance to do it here”, two friends shared this moment with me and my camera. Now I’m sharing it with you.
I think it’s my favorite shot of all from Mardi Gras in New Orleans, so that’s saying something.
