So as I mentioned the other day, I was deathly ill with the flu over the New Year’s holiday. My dear friends Melinda and Leela got me this little sweetie to keep me company while I was quarantined in Melinda’s second bedroom for almost a week. I decided to name her Strix, after both the genus of the Barred Owl (the first owl I ever shot in the wild) and other earless owls, and the ancient mythological¬†“vampiric owl-monster believed to suck the blood of infants”.

I mean, look at her, she’s got a dew-rag with a jolly roger on it! She’s a total bad-ass, and it’s the perfect name for her.
